Adam Simmons + Mark Cauvin will perform Syd Clayton's "Yehudi" at the Arts House North Melbourne Town Hall.
Adam Simmons is a multi-instrumentalist playing the full range of saxophones (sopranino to bass), as well as clarinets and flutes, across a broad range of styles - jazz, avant-garde, new music, punk, latin, blues, funk, classical, techno. Based in Melbourne since 1990, Adam often tours around Australia, is regularly invited to New Caledonia, and has performed throughout America and Poland.
As the only solo double bassist focusing on the classical avant-garde in Australia, Mark Cauvin defines himself not so much as a ‘double bass musician’, but rather as an artist or sound practitioner who composes, performs and researches. With a strong focus and background in visual and conceptual arts, Mark now brings European avant-garde concepts into the performance of new and exciting Australian compositions. Using a prepared microphone for some works as part of Mark’s approach to inventing a new language for the double bass, the emphasis is less on melody and technical execution, and more concerned with shaping alternately beautiful, intriguing and arresting moments of sound.
