Liquid Architecture 10 was the second time that the festival had been held in Perth. A strong development of local Perth initiatives has grown over the years, though understandably for a city that sits quite far from the country's other capitals and creative centres, an exchange between Western Australian artists with those from other states has in past seemed less common. Tura New Music, run by LA10's Perth director Tos Mahony is an example of an initiative fostering the development of Perth's experimental music community. Another, the label Meupe is representative of the DIY mentality that saw Liquid Architecture initiated by RMIT University students in 1999. Tura New Music organises monthly sound performance evenings at the Ellington Jazz Club in Northbridge, Perth. Titled Club Zho, these events provide a forum not simply for local talent but host international and interstate guests. Conducive of a certain audience development that makes us recall the arguments for sustainability in an earlier Liquid Architecture forum in Sydney, Club Zho is now in its tenth year. Traianos Pakioufakis of Meupe was co-curator with Tos Mahony of the LA10 event in Perth, also held at the Ellington Jazz Club. At the concert, which featured performances by Jason Kahn, Joel Stern and Perlonex, one was given a sense not only of Perth's growing niche and experimental artistic community, but also the value for Liquid Architecture in extending reciprocal partnerships and allowing new creative inputs.
