Joel Stern makes sound art and noise, which he performs and publishes throughout Australia and the world. His work sets shambolic, improvised and accidental passages against painstaking compositions and arrangements, renderings of imaginary and real spaces.
Joel's recent album 'objects, masks, props' on the Naturestrip label has stimulated curiosity, admiration, and pleasure from both critics and listeners. Joel is a co-founder of OtherFilm and Audiopollen, Brisbane-based organisations dedicated to fostering unconstrained experimentation, risk-taking performance and cross-media exploration in artists of different generations.
