Developed to assist artists in getting back into their creative practice after the impacts of 2020, Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS), Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) and Liquid Architecture (LA) are partnering to offer 20 electronic sound artists 2-week 'Recovery Residencies' at the MESS Studio to produce a new electronic track of a length of their choosing.
Successful applicants will have access to the world-class MESS collection of electronic instruments over a 2-week period and the outcome, a track from each artist - mastered by MESS, will be presented as a free, non-commercial compilation on the MESS SoundCloud and across the MESS, MAV and LA social media and web channels. The copyright to this track rests with the artist (more details below).
FUNDING
Each of the 20 successful participating artists will receive $1500 ex. GST at the completion of their 2-week residency.
WHO CAN APPLY
This opportunity is open to participants aged 18+ and is suited to practising electronic sound artists at any stage of their careers - emerging, mid-career and established artists are encouraged to apply. Applications will be assessed by representatives from MESS, MAV and LA.
TIMEFRAME
The residencies will be run in 2-week blocks starting from May 17 to August 22, 2021 – please indicate in this form the fortnight blocks you are available.
During their 2-week residency, artists will have access to the MESS Studio on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1pm-5pm each week, plus a weeknight 6pm-10pm or Saturday 1pm-5pm session – please indicate in this form if you'd prefer a weeknight or Saturday session.
