Josten Myburgh is a composer, performer and organiser based on Whadjuk Noongar boodja in Boorloo (Perth, Western Australia). He's fascinated with the poetics of juxtaposition, layering, coincidence, repetition & distortion, making use of electro-acoustic sound, improvisation on woodwinds, notated composition & interdisciplinary collaboration to explore these things (and others) in playful, experimental & ecological ways.
He is part of the management of the label Tone List, dedicated to fostering exploratory music in Perth, and curates their annual Audible Edge festival and the Sounding Together mentorship/residency. He is the audio documentarian for the label, and additionally produces interviews and material for online publication. In addition to this grassroots community work, he also teaches, including lecturing at the WA Academy of Performing Arts.
Notable performances of his include the Fremantle Biennale, Supersense Festival of the Ecstatic (Melbourne), Festival Cable#8 (Nantes), KLEX Festival (Kuala Lumpur), Klangraum Festival (Düsseldorf), Inland Concert Series (Melbourne/Perth), AudioArt Festival (Krakow), Club Zho (Perth), and the Totally Huge New Music Festival (Perth).
He has been involved with releases on Shame File Music, Edition Wandelweiser, Flaming Pines and Tone List, and been commissioned by performers and organisations including Catherine Ashley, Jameson Feakes and Barna Mia Eco Education (Parks and Wildlife Service, Narrogin).
He plays with musicians and artists in Western Australia such as Joshua Pether, Daisy Sanders, Djuna Lee, Lenny Jacobs, Noemie Huttner-Koros and Jameson Feakes, as well as improvisers from other parts of the world, including Laura Altman, Simon Charles, Lena Czerniawska, Jim Denley, Emilio Gordoa, Michael McNab, Matthias Müller and Adam Pultz-Melbye.
In 2019 he was awarded the Harold Schenberg fellowship in composition, as well as project grants from the Ian Potter Cultural Trust & the WA Department of Local Government, Sports & Cultural Industries

My singing practice has polyphonic elements as it is grounded in overtone/throat singing and an ongoing exploration of extra-normal vocal technique. My invocation practice invites a plurality of entities to manifest in/as/through me—multiple voices making use of multiple voices. My ritual practice stems from a chaos magick background influenced by shamanic practices and possession/invocation ritual. I have been influenced by Tibetan Chöd ritual and the anarchist ideals of mutual aid and solidarity. Rather than ‘summoning’ an entity and demanding something of it (a typical Western occult formula), I invite entities to explore a more open-ended, creative and collaborative relationship. My interest in Dada and Discordianism, as well as grappling with the illusion of free will, have led me to an open-ended, Dada (Anti)Magick take on ritual in which I strive to have an open doors policy to accept (and give voice to) who/whatever might arise. alsi is a sound artist and musician working on stolen and unceded Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung lands. Her sounds draw heavily from bass music continuums, occasionally drifting towards sound collage and ambient spaces. Her debut release in March 2021 came in the form of two tracks for a compilation on Naarm's Powertrip label.

Something profound and yet frivolous. Like running next to the grave site. Brown eyeshadow gathers underneath my eye. Watching distressed birds flutter their wings with struggle. The window stains, filters through and exists within. Um, yeah. Shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it—baby. I put on bug-eyed glasses with yellow lens, and the long grassy lea does not seem so dull anymore. Dew on the mead pulses and sparkles to the rate of a higher being. Bit awkward to write this way. Bit like red lipstick. Some can pull it off, but mostly it is overkill and gets stuck on your teeth. The brume is ravenous and becomes a fury of flames.
