Melbourne electronic musician Fia Fiell, aka Carolyn Schofield, combines her profound practical and theoretical chops as a pianist and composer with a most modern and perceptive ear for stretching out the orbit of millennial electronic music constructs. As a live performer, Carolyn plays and processes multiple synths in real time to create hauntingly ethereal, unsettling and other-worldly soundscapes, a sound which formed the basis of her first release, "A Hair, A Heap" on Melbourne label Nice Music in 2016.

Since then, Carolyn’s unique live shows have seen her invited to perform at festivals including Freedom Time, Inner Varnika, Obsidian Festival and Melbourne Fashion Week, as well as her own headline performance in multichannel sound presented by Play On at Melbourne Music Week, which was commissioned as a site-specific work at the Docklands’ Mission to Seafarers Dome.

Heavily influenced by the rhythms and movements of the natural world as well as musical romanticism, Carolyn often explores meditative, emotive and subtly-shifting sonic landscapes in her music, with improvisation forming a large part of her compositional processes and live performances. She has an unnatural knack for wielding the hi-res vapour clouds which form and nebulize around uneasy chords and melodic cycles, perhaps conjuring a notion of childlike wonderment and trepidation in the face of an unmapped universe around us.

Carolyn also performs in a difficult-to-categorise dance music duo, ‘Rolling Mass’, together with beatmaker and grindcore drummer Max Kohane. Their debut EP, Prime Unity (released on L.A.’s Brain Dead Records last year) explored influences ranging from disco and funk to house, drone and distorted techno. Carolyn has also just joined art-pop indie band Jaala on synths, and will be touring Europe together with singer/guitarist Cosima Pay and drummer Maria Moles following the release of Jaala’s new album, *Joonya Spirit* on Bedroom Suck in April.

South London based musician Klein is an artist whose neoteric vision has seen her quickly become one of the UK’s most intriguing and unpinnable producers and performers. Her often playful and restive approach to composition is instantly alluring. Samples of obscure Nigerian B-Movies clatter into jagged beats. Distant piano loops lurk in the haze whilst beguiling vocals fade in and out of the sensory World she has created.

This year has seen the release of her debut album *Only*, self released online and then on heart shaped diamond USB stick by DIY label Howling Owl Records, and more recently the *Lagata* EP that has led her to be featured in Dazed and Confused, Wire, and i-D magazine; the latter of which premiered the beautiful Akinola Davies JR directed video for Marks Of Worship – a stunning five minutes piece of murky ambience dominated by a Whatsapp sermon sent from a Nigerian Aunt. You would expect nothing less from Klein.

Often there's a tragic-comical touch, like a cartoon version of what could be a requiem from a dream (or just as much a fertility dance from another dimension). Recent works include the cycle \*Traditional Music Of Notional Species\* released across two volumes on PAN, and the multi-part work \*Based On A True Story\* that derives scores from historical occurrences in a sort of 'sonic staging'. In this context, he is currently commissioned by New York-based ensemble Alarm Will Sound and Berlin string ensemble Kaleidoskop. Rashad is mainly active as a solo artist but finds himself in a series of permanent collaborations alongside Eli Keszler, Moritz von Oswald and as a member of the formation Moleglove. Alien landscapes resulting from the unlikely combination of 1980s Japanese synth and 1380s Chinese harp.

Those familiar with Abrahams and Cooper’s other exploits (The Necks, Hammeriver, Splinter Orchestra) might be expecting a harmonic polyphony of harp and piano ...you’ll hear Germ Studies by comparison embody a sound more familiar with alien landscapes resulting from the unlikely combination of 1980s Japanese synth and 1380's Chinese harp. Germ Studies create an ambiguous and ambitious music that stems from a language borne of contemporary electro-acoustic improvisation, approached from a very different angle – filled with wonderful, ecstatic and unexpected joys. Their new album Wing Down, a collection of text, illustrations and new sounds, is set for release in 2018.

Germ Studies’ music is a conversation in time. Their eyes rarely meeting, they set to work extracting the most delicate noises as possible from their respective instruments. Partly soundtrack to a digital planet, partly a study on the permanence of music. While Chris Abrahams’ programmed synth carries the audience from thudding depths to painful and instantaneous highs, Clare Cooper’s guzheng morphs from ancient acoustic to space-age and back, played masterfully with fingers, palms, and drum sticks.

Th Duo Trio comprises of Ying-Li Hooi (Queens Of The Circulating Library, Paris), Rohan Rebeiro (My Disco, Kangaroo Skull) & Tarquin Manek (Bum Creek,Tarcar, F ingers, LST). The group played one show as Dog at Obsidian festival 2017 that careened from the medieval to the modern with an unhinged attitude utilising samplers, synths, guitars, voices and brass, wind and percussion.

Rashad is considered one of the world’s foremost mastering engineers at the Berlin-based Dubplates & Mastering studio, with technical credits on hundreds of the most renowned underground electronic releases of the last decade.

More recently Becker has been fetishised as an avant-garde composer and solo electronic musician in his own right, with a practice wrapped up inprecision and radical listening. His recent release on Berlin label PAN is hailed as ‘redolent of Smithsonian Folkways’ field recordings, with nods to early musique concrète and intercepted extraterrestrial transmissions’.
