Hamish Upton is a percussionist who thrives as a collaborator, champion of contemporary music, and educator. He holds a Master of Music Research from Griffith University focusing on the use of laptop-based sound technology as an enhancement to solo percussion performance. He studied at the Australian National Academy of Music where he won multiple awards for his curation and performance of contemporary art music, and prior to this was supported with full tuition and board for four years of study at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory at the National University of Singapore. Hamish was a performer in Semaphore, Kate Neal’s APRA award winning interdisciplinary work (2015). Hamish performs with Speak Percussion, and has previously worked with BOLT ensemble, Elision, and was a performer at Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music in 2016, 2017 and 2019. Hamish is a co-director of Ossicle Duo, with trombonist Benjamin Anderson. Ossicle Duo won the contemporary masters prize for their performance of Mauricio Kagel’s L’art Bruit in 2019 and the duo are 2022 Local Heroes at the Melbourne Recital Centre. Hamish Upton

Nurtured as a conductor and cellist in Australia and throughout Europe, Daniel has performed at many of the major opera houses and concert halls in the world including the Elbphilharmonie, Berliner Philharmonie, Philharmonie de Paris, the Warsaw Filharmonia, Royal Festival Hall, and Sydney Opera House. In 2018 he was awarded a Fellowship with Sydney Symphony Orchestra, in 2019 he secured a position with Southbank Sinfonia Orchestra, and he has been assistant conductor to David Curtis from 2020. In 2022, Daniel was also the recipient of a DYCP grant from the Arts Council of England for conducting and the EAMA/Cynthia Lilley Fellowship.
Daniel has conducted in Australia, the UK, and Germany with orchestras such as The People’s Orchestra, The Rusty Orchestra, Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra, and The Film Orchestra. His repertoire ranges from operas such as Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, and Borodin’s Prince Igor, to orchestral and symphonic music by Richard Strauss, Stravinsky, Debussy, Copland, John Williams, Borodin, as well as staples, such as Dvorak, Sibelius, Brahms, and Beethoven.
As a cellist, Daniel has worked extensively. Some orchestras he has performed with include Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia Orchestra, Junge Deutsche Oper, Philharmonia Orchestra, and Southbank Sinfonia Orchestra. As a soloist and chamber musician, Daniel has performed internationally, appearing in festivals, such as Adelaide Cello Festival, Festival Dino Ciani, and Anghiari Festival. His repertoire spans genres from renaissance to today, specialising in romantic and contemporary Western Art Music.
Born in Sydney, Australia to musical parents, Daniel studied Cello at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. In 2012, he moved to Germany where he continued his studies at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Dastellende Kunst, Stuttgart. His awards and scholarships include the Corinne d’Haag-Meyer scholarship for his studies in Australia, a DYCP grant for Conducting from the Arts Council of England and a EAMA/Cynthia Lilley Fellowship from the European American Musicians Association. He is currently co-director of the arts company FABLE ARTS.

Whelk is the collaboration between Genevieve Fry and Manisha Anjali. Whelk is a sensory,
ambient exploration of the deep sea dream — a return to a place we lived before birth.
Genevieve Fry is multi-instrumentalist and vocalist interested in improvisation, collaboration and
the natural world. Manisha Anjali is a writer and artist working with poetry, performance and
dream realms.

Manisha Anjali (b. Suva, Fiji) is a writer and artist. Manisha is the founder of Neptune, a research and documentation platform for dreams, visions and hallucinations. Manisha has exhibited at Casula Powerhouse, Bus Projects, c3 artspace, 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Wyndham Art Gallery, Bluestone Church Arts Space, KINGS and SEVENTH Gallery. She has performed and appeared on panels at Melbourne Writers’ Festival, Queensland Poetry Festival, Emerging Writers’ Festival and Brunswick Music Festival. Her writings have been published in Portside Review, Best of Australian Poems 2021, ie – for the people we will be, Liminal Magazine, Cordite Poetry Review, IKA Journal and Meanjin. She guest-edited Runway Journal Issue 41: LOVE and was the Poetry Editor at The Lifted Brow. She has facilitated workshops and courses on creative writing, literature, performance and experimentation with University of Melbourne, RMIT First Site Gallery, SIGNAL, Digital Writers’ Festival, Arts Gen, Verb Wellington Writers’ Festival, Back to Back Theatre, Casula Powerhouse, Melbourne Polytechnic, Express Media and Free Association. Manisha has been a recipient of BLINDSIDE’s Regional Arts & Research Residency at Mooramong, a Writer-in-Residence at Incendium Radical Library and a Hot Desk Fellow at The Wheeler Centre. *TERRA: Memory & Soil*, a collaboration between artists Victoria Pham and Joel Spring combines sound, biological-sculpture, architecture and projection to interrogate how we remember our past landscapes by transforming gallery spaces into immersive gardens. Their mission is to place indigenous knowledge and diasporic narratives in a central position for knowledge production, cultural exchange, and story-telling. *TERRA* is co-commissioned by West Space, Centre for Projection Art, and Liquid Architecture.
