Rully Shabara explores the human voice as a medium of creation, and language as a material for experimentation. 

Born in Palu, Indonesia, 1982. Dedicated in exploring human voice as a medium of creation, and language as a material to experiment with amd initiated numerous concept-based projects around voice as the main element. Rully has delivered workshops around the globe that focus on using human voice as a rich resource to explore primal expression and improvisations.

Rully is one part of Indonesian musical pioneers Senyawa, an important band for it’s time as one of the first musicians to contextualise the relationship between traditional musics and contemporary new musics coming out of SE Asia and the ‘Global South’. He has also collaborated with many notable international musicians and artists from all kinds of spectrum such as Keiji Haino, Stephen O`Malley, Otomo Yoshihide, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Damo Suzuki, Yoshida Tatsuya, Trevor Dunn, Arrington DeDionyso, Justin Vernon, Jessica Ekomane, DJ Sniff, Greg Fox, and many more.

The Music Industry Research Collective (MIRC) in partnership with Liquid Architecture, is pleased to announce an artist talk and interactive workshop with renowned Indonesian experimental vocalist, composer, and digital instrument creator, Rully Shabara.

Shabara will be sharing and demonstrating his 'Xhabarabot Voice Machines', tools that utilise artificial intelligence and machine learning to manipulate, sequence, and transform voices, expanding the boundaries of vocality and musical expression.

This event is free and open to faculty, students, and the general public. Bring open ears, a laptop, and headphones. Rully will be performing the Xhabarabot AI Voice Machines at Darebin Arts Centre on Wednesday 24 April with Brian Fuata and Jocelyn Tribe.
