Lakatoi is an acclaimed experimental producer and musician based in Naarm Melbourne.

Leading various projects through the years, such as Kandere and FAMILI, he has been hailed as a forward-thinking innovator who weaves his own unique sound into all he touches. His recent solo project samples archival and percussion recordings from the Pacific. The audio is reworked to imagine what an oceanic club environment could be. Lakatoi has performed at several festivals around Australia alongside international acts such as Leonce, Nozinja, Asmara, Lotic, Moor Mother, Elysia Crampton and Gaika.

Ripley Kavara

Pamela Arce's work investigates the body, its movement, its symbols and representations.

Fom working in ceramics to explorations in video and installations, to sharing food, she addresses the relation between bodies-territories. Pamela is Peruvian and lives in Australia, so the notion of territory permeates her life and work.

With sarcasm and tenderness she addresses the passage to death, the fear of the virus, the ways to hide in the dark, and in the shadows. Taking as a reference the ancestral crafts of pre-Columbian cultures from the south, in her work there are beings made up of multiple mouths, earth and seeds, wrapped in cloth, which can be read as memory spells.

Taloi Havini (Nakas Tribe, Hakö people) was born in Arawa, Autonomous Region of Bougainville and is currently based in Brisbane, Australia. Knowledge – production, transmission, inheritance, mapping, and representation are central themes in Havini’s work where she examines these in relation to land, architecture and place.

Taloi Havini (Nakas Tribe, Hakö people) was born in Arawa, Autonomous Region of Bougainville and is currently based in Brisbane, Australia. She employs a research practice informed by her matrilineal ties to her land and communities in Bougainville. This manifests in works created using a range of media including photography, audio – video, sculpture, immersive installation and print.

She curates and collaborates across multi-art platforms using archives, working with communities and developing commissions locally and internationally.

This round we consider ocean exchanges, navigations and aural/oral cultures within the Pacific, thinking of it as a big space and connecting into Abya Yala or what we also know as the Americas.

We are delighted to host artists Taloi Havini and Ripley Kavara in conversation with Liquid Architectures Co-Director Dr Lucreccia Quintanilla.
